We will have an open discussion about how our quilts are judged. Members will share judges' comments on their own quilts that have been entered in shows so that others can get a feel for what judges are looking for.
ALSO.....About a year ago, BVQ was invited to participate in a multi-guild HOHL Challenge. A HOHL theme is open to the designer's interpretation, " Undiminished…integral…complete….totality…aggregate…not divided…entirety…unimpaired…assemblage of parts associated or viewed together as one thing…not fractional…comprising the full quantity, etc." The challenge was to make a 24 inch x 24 inch quilt that depicts a chosen [hohl]. The 40 quilts have been traveling for the last year and will be coming to the January 8th BVQ meeting. The HOHL Challenge Committee will provide ballots and you will get to vote on your favorite. Thank you to the 4 BVQ members who participated.
In addition to the HOHL Challenge display and voting opportunities we are pleased to have assembled a panel of experienced BVQ quilters who have observed varied show judges in action. They will share some of their experiences during the judging process and how to interpret the comments judges make. They will also give us insight into the certification process for quilt show judges! Many of you have interesting experiences in this process, so we hope to have an open dialogue, and have you share your perspectives on what to do to prep your quilt and how to get the most out of the process.
Please bring past quilt show judging comment sheets to share what various judges are honing in on and how they approach the process. If you have specific questions about the process, please send them to me at jeanne.phillips1816@gmail.com. We will assemble your questions and address them specifically on the panel!
