The Art of the Landscape Workshop with Nancy Hershberger
Nancy Hershberger is an Art Quilter and instructor in rural Pennsylvania. She loves to create with fabric, thread and with a little bit of inks. In this 6-hour workshop the student will use his/her own photo to create a small landscape art quilt. We will study the details in our images to figure out how to interpret them using only fabric, fusible web and Tsukineko Inks. Fabric does all the heavy lifting to create the illusion of water, rock, sky and foliage, while inks enhance the look. Nancy shares how to use these tools in a fun and upbeat class, showing the student how easy it is to create a piece that only looks hard. See the supply list below.
Supply List
For this class you will use your own photo.
1. Inspiration photo printed on 8 ½ x 11” sheet of paper
2. *Silk or cotton low loft batting, slightly larger than a fat quarter. No Poly batting.
3. Gray or silver Sharpie
4. Black Sharpie, fine point
5. Fabric Scissors and rotary cutter
6. Cutting mat
7. Ruler 6”x 24” and/or 4” x 14”
8. **Tsukineko Inks – 1 bottle #82 Real Black, 1 bottle #80 White. No alcohol inks.
9. **2 Fantastix applicators (brush tip – the pointy one).
10. Fabrics that resemble colors in your inspiration images. They do not have to be exact. Please do not bring scraps. Please bring fat eighth or fat quarter size fabrics. Please trust me on this. No scraps.
11. MistyFuse. Please apply to your fabrics prior to class. MistyFuse is the best product for this technique. If you have never used it, please do not wait until class to try it. Instructions are on the package.
12. Pressing mat or heat-resistant design wall, the size of your batting or larger (FQ size).

**Inks and applicators are available at Artistic Artifacts (artisticartifacts.com).
Note: We will need irons, ideally 1 iron for two people if electrical circuit allows.
Also, we will not be tracing anything. You do not need to enlarge your image any bigger than 8 ½ x 11.
We will fuse directly to the batting. No muslin backing needed. Your finished quilt will be no larger than
the size of a fat quarter.
