Sue Nickels has been quilting for over 40 years, starting by hand and gradually focusing on machine work. She has been teaching machine techniques for the past 26 years. Sue has taught and lectured nationally and internationally, specializing in achieving the best quality workmanship, never compromising quality for speed!
Sue’s major awards include 1998 AQS Best of Show for “The Beatles Quilt” made by Sue and her sister, Pat Holly. Their quilt, “The Space Quilt” won the 2003 IQA Master of Machine Artistry Award and the 2004 AQS Machine Workmanship Award. Sue and Pat’s quilt “Tea at Tenby” won 2009 Best of Show at the Birmingham Festival of Quilts in England. Sue has authored Machine Quilting: A Primer of Techniques, Stitched Raw Edge Appliqué (co-authored with Pat) and Fabulous Feathers and Fillers: Design and Machine Quilting Techniques. Sue is a regular judge at the Oaks, PA Mancuso Quiltfest and we are thrilled to welcome her to BVQ as a judge, exhibitor, and lecturer! |
Sandra L. Dorrbecker is a quilt professional, designer, writer, technical adviser, instructor, and judge (member of NQA/NACQJ and QIJS). She made her first quilt in 1971 and fell in love with the process. As a former dress shop owner, she enjoys making and designing garments as well as quilts. She has been teaching and lecturing on quilting topics since 1989.
Sandra has presented lectures on “Quilt Shows for the Quiltmaker” and hosts an intensive two-day judging seminar “The Introduction to Judging." Sandra has participated in the ASG, NQA, and the Fairfield Fashion Shows national and international events. Her work has been sought out by a range of organizations including Quilting International, DMC Thread Company, RJR Fashion Fabrics, EGA and over ninety-five quilt guilds or organizations in twenty states. We are so excited to be welcoming Sandra back to BVQ as one of our certified judges! |
