In 2019, the Brandywine Valley Quilters contacted The Hickman to make lap quilts for their residents. Focusing on the residents of the Darlington Neighborhood, the quilters were able to personalize each of the quilts. It took approximately nine months to find fabrics and sew the quilts. All were completed by June of 2020 and were delivered to The Hickman. Although the guild members were unable to attend the presentation, The Hickman staff still celebrated the distribution of the quilts to the residents on July 8. “Our residents were very surprised and happy to receive the quilts," a representative from The Hickman said. "They loved putting them on their laps and looking at the personalized details.”

Our very own Queen Bees made the local news when they met up at a local parking lot for some socially-distant quilting! Click here to see the article on the website or read the article below: Social distancing has put a crimp into many activities so, when you can't meet at a friend's home, you have to make due. And the Queen Bees — a subgroup of the Brandywine Valley Quilting Guild — have been setting up in parking lots. Often the choice of which lot depends on what they feel like eating that day, one said in the Painters Crossing parking lot near Nudy's on Sunday. The Bees have been around for four years, but the larger group had been around for more than 30. Members of the group agreed that the lockdown has made getting together more difficult, but the parking lots work. COVID-19 has also affected guild meetings and quilting classes. Even they are being done on Zoom. But the group has been productive. Members began working on a quilt last August that's to be raffled off at a quilt show planned for October in Brookhaven.   |

I think I have sewed forever – my mom sewed, my grandmother sewed, and in 1984 I decided to make a "blanket" for my about-to-be baby....it was 3 layers sewn together with a binding! Little did I know it was a quilt! I am basically self-taught, but continue to learn as I hang out with BVQ. My basement work area is seriously quilt cluttered and my better half asks no questions!
