WOW!
What a great day, thank you to everyone who participated in any way.

The beautiful charity work turned in today included:
  • 108 pillowcases
  • 7 burb cloths and 4 bibs
  • 82 quilts (some completely finished, some need quilting, one needs binding
  • And we collected over $400 towards our Scholarship Fund from fabric donations.

Brandywine Valley and Calico Cutters Quilt Guilds contributed 441 pillowcases in support of the “Miles for Pillowcase Smiles Campaign 2020” in honor of Childhood Cancer Awareness Month sponsored by the Philadelphia Chapter of Ryan’s Case for Smiles (formerly ConnKerr Cancer). Thanks to so many members who made them, to Elaine O’Connell for providing kits, and Kathy Nester for collecting and delivering them.

Charity quilts for Hickman residents

6/15/2020

In 2019, the Brandywine Valley Quilters contacted The Hickman to make lap quilts for their residents.  Focusing on the residents of the Darlington Neighborhood, the quilters were able to personalize each of the quilts.
It took approximately nine months to find fabrics and sew the quilts. All were completed by June of 2020 and were delivered to The Hickman.
Although the guild members were unable to attend the presentation, The Hickman staff still celebrated the distribution of the quilts to the residents on July 8.
“Our residents were very surprised and happy to receive the quilts," a representative from The Hickman said.  "They loved putting them on their laps and looking at the personalized details.”

Hi I'm Deb, BVQ webmaster and official blog runner! I am a retired Medical Technologist,  having worked the night shift at Chester County Hospital for 30 years. I think I have sewed forever – my mom sewed, my grandmother sewed, and in 1984 I decided to make a "blanket" for my about-to-be baby....it was 3 layers sewn together with a binding!  Little did I know it was a quilt!  I am basically self-taught, but continue to learn as I hang out with BVQ.  My basement work area is seriously quilt cluttered and my better half asks no questions!  I have too many UFO’s and want-to-do’s than I can count, but I guess that makes me a true quilter!
