Quilt Show Revisited - Take 5 Workshops

As part of BVQ's "2020 Virtual Show", we offered 5 Workshops on 5 different techniques from September 12 through November 7, 2020. 

Rebecca Bryan - Design with Triangles - Light & Live
September 12, 2020
​This was a fun and interactive virtual workshop, each attendee choosing to work with either or all of the three types of triangles:  equilateral, right triangle (also known as the Half Triangle), or isosceles. Rebecca taught us to design our own triangle block by experimenting with graphic elements such as line, texture, scale, and framing.  She shared two of her “go to” quilting techniques as we sewed through our experiments in graphic design. 

​Rachel Rossi - The Secret to Precision Curves

Curves used to intimidate Rachel!  But she showed us that they aren’t scary at all as we dove into the world of curves and precision!  Attendees were delighted to see just how simple it is to get a gorgeous and curvy jilt by creating the StarLine Mini Quilt while we learned how curves work & how we can make them perfectly precise as we go. ​

​Cheryl Lynch - Sofia

Attendees were the FIRST to participate in this workshop, as well as sew with Mosaic Masterpiece, Cheryl’s new line of fabric.  Sofia (reminding us of the floors in old European churches) went together simply, yet looks so complex.   Participants used her pattern and a 15-degree wedge ruler. 

​Sarah Bond - New Twists on Diamond Piecing:  Diamond Stair Steps

In this workshop attendees took Lone Star piecing to a different level! Sarah showed us how to manage 2 1/2” strips into diamond strips for new shapes resembling painted and tiled staircases using a jelly roll or strips from our own stash to curate a special mix of interesting patterns and colors!

Melinda Stanton - The Nuts and Bolts of EPP - Lucy Boston and Beyond

In this workshop attendees learned the basics of English paper piecing - attaching fabric to paper pieces and sewing them together delving deeper, layer by layer, learning supply and stitch options; choosing fabric to make incredibly gorgeous designs; fussy cutting; and tips and tricks to save time.
